Praying only when we need Him

I’ve heard people say that when we pray, it shouldn’t be only when we need Him, and run to Jesus only when we are in trouble. A thought came to my mind, what if we truly had a proper biblical understanding of our current state, a theology of total depravity. If we really saw ourselves for who we are then we would be praying all the time, knowing we are in danger constantly. So, next time we see or hear someone talk about the idea of “Praying only when we need Him”, the problem is not that we shouldn’t run to him only when we need him, but that we need to be doing it more often, like constantly. We don’t fully understand that we are in constant and desperate need of our Savior to survive in this world, and need to be in contact with him constantly, as the bible suggests.
